Iowa State Football Relying on Youth by Jeff Zell
AP

AMES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State coach Gene Chizik says he feels
like he has a better understanding of his team thanks to a week
off.
Chizik says the Cyclones have a lot of things to fix, adding
that many of the team's issues are a result of playing so many
youngsters. He pointed to mistakes like receivers dropping passes
and linemen missing blocks as signs of their inexperience.
Chizik says that youth isn't an excuse, but it has helped him
put this team in perspective. Sixteen freshmen and redshirt
freshmen have seen action this season.
Iowa State, which is 2-2, will host No. 16 Kansas on Saturday.
The Jayhawks are 3-1, with their only losing coming at No. 10 South
Florida.
Both teams are coming off bye weeks.
