Iowa State Looks Toward Kent St. by A.J. Ellingson
AP
AMES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State coach Gene Chizik isn't wasting any time getting his recruits onto the field.
True freshmen scored 26 of Iowa State's 44 points in the Cyclones' blowout win over South Dakota State in last week's
opener.
Kicker Grant Mahoney was perfect on the night, scoring 14 points on three field goals and five extra points. Wide receivers Darius
Darks and Sedrick Johnson each added touchdown catches on their first career receptions.
Chizik said Monday that he's proud of many of the young players because of how quickly they've been able to make an impact.
Iowa State (1-0) will go for its fourth win in five games dating back to last season when it hosts Kent State Saturday night.
The Golden Flashes, who beat Iowa State in Ames in 2007, were shut out by Boston College at home on Saturday.
