Hawkeyes Top Recruit has change of Heart by Jeff Zell
AP
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A top high school offensive lineman has
changed his mind about playing at Iowa and instead will commit to
Michigan State.

David Barrent of West Des Moines Valley says he called Iowa
coach Kirk Ferentz and told him of his decision. He says Ferentz
wasn't pleased but left the door open for him to change his mind
and recommit to Iowa.

Barrent will be a senior this year and had planned to be part of
Iowa's 2009 recruiting class.

He says the Iowa football program's off-field problems in the
past year were a slight factor in his decision.
