Sergio Garcia Breaks 3-Year Winless Draught AP

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Sergio Garcia ended the longest
victory drought of his career by hitting the island green 17th on
the first extra hole to defeat Paul Goydos (GOY'-dohs) in The
Players Championship. It's Garcia's first PGA Tour win in three
years, covering 53 PGA Tour events.

It was the first time The Players had gone to a playoff in 21
years.

Goydos was the first player to hit into the water when the
tournament began Thursday. He was the last to find the water at the
worst time. His wedge came up short and in the water on the only
playoff hole. Garcia's shot was perfect, rolling within 4 feet.

He missed the birdie putt, but it didn't matter. Garcia pocketed
1.71 million for his biggest win on Tour. Goydos didn't have a bad
payday either -- he earned just over a million dollars for
finishing second.

Jeff Quinney finished third with Briny Baird fourth.
