Liriano Still Having Problems AP
Minneapolis, MN (AP) - Twins lefthander Francisco Liriano strutted
to the mound every time in 2006 with no fear.
But when he returned this year after being out with elbow
surgery, Liriano may have been a little too fearless for his own
good.
Liriano wanted to be thrown in the mix right away rather than
take his time in the minor leagues. The results were not pretty.
He gave up six runs and walked three while getting only two outs
in the first inning against Oakland before getting pulled. When
manager Ron Gardenhire went to the mound, he saw fear in Liriano's
eyes for the first time.
Gardenhire says he thinks that's a good thing.
Liriano is back at Triple-A Rochester, and the Twins hope his
0-3 record and 11.73 ERA will help him refocus.
