MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A New York investment banker was accused of raping a woman at a Hamptons home that he and his wife had rented, his attorney and police said.
Jason Lee, 37, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday to a charge of first-degree rape and was freed on $20,000 bail.
East Hampton police said a 20-year-old woman reported she had been sexually assaulted at the home early Tuesday morning. Lee and a group of friends had returned from a nightclub when the assault allegedly took place.
Lee lives in New York City and is a managing director at Goldman Sachs, said his attorney, Edward Burke, Jr. He works in the equity capital markets department.
“Despite these horrendous charges, Mr. Lee is adamant that this did not take place,” Burke said Friday. “He is not a person that would ever do such a thing. He is married and has the full support of his family.”
Goldman Sachs spokesman Michael DuVally declined to comment. Lee was placed on leave following his arrest.
Burke did not want to address specific allegations, saying he was still investigating.
Lee and his wife had rented the house for the month of August. Homes in the Hamptons, Long Island’s playground for the rich and famous, can rent for tens of thousands of dollars a month in the summer. Burke said he did not know how much Lee paid for his rental.
A grand jury has been empaneled in the case. Lee is due back in court on Sept. 19.
