BAYPORT, Minn. (AP) — Court documents show an inmate's escape plan triggered a nearly weeklong lockdown at Stillwater Prison last month.
Department of Corrections officials learned from confidential sources that a 45-year-old inmate was planning to break out with help from at least one accomplice.
But the plot was thwarted before it began.
According to search warrant affidavits, authorities searched the inmate's cell and found a suicide note that was part of the escape plan.
The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/188HdDw ) reports phone calls to an accomplice revealed the inmate was planning a suicide attempt by eating razor blades or prescription drugs.
The accomplice was to intercept the ambulance on the way to the hospital and help the inmate escape.
Records show the inmate has been moved to the maximum security prison at Oak Park Heights.
