AUSTIN, MN -- Three southern Minnesota counties could be seeing changes when it comes to public transit.
A joint city/county meeting will be held tomorrow in Austin to discuss a change in the transit system throughout the city and county.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation approached the county and city about merging Mower County's transit systems with Freeborn and Steele counties.
The proposal would shift all transit responsibilities to Cedar Valley Services, which operates systems in all three counties, while cutting back on MnDOT's workload.
"I think it is an opportunity for them to potentially reduce their workload and reduce their costs by merging them into different sections or different divisions throughout the state," Director of Administrative Services Tom Dankert said.
Dankert says if the proposal were to go through, nothing would change as far as transit systems go in Mower County.
The meeting will be at 3:30 at the Mower County Housing & Redevelopment Authority conference room.
