SCARVILLE, Iowa - When you live in a city with a population of just over seventy people a multi-million dollar project on a cooperative in town is a big development
The old Scarville Cooperative elevator was demolished earlier this spring and construction began on a brand Five Star Co-op building.
Five Star brought in local contractors to help with construction and the co-op re-opened in mid-October.
The new building is also expected to bring some hope to an area that's dealt with recent job loss and the closing of facilities.
The East Region Manager and Safety Director, Matt Litwiller said that one of the things he’s excited about is Five Star’s commitment to the community.
“You know it means jobs to small town communities, there’s people that work here that live here within a 5 mile radius of this facility and we provide jobs to the people of rural America,” Litwiller said.
The changes to the facility mean they can now accept both corn and soybeans.
