AUSTIN, MN -- A possible Human Services merger in our area is losing traction after seeing possible costs.
Mower, Dodge, Steele and Waseca counties are the remaining four counties considering the merger, but after hearing about a projected $1 million share for the next phase of the project, those in Mower County are having second thoughts.
They held a work session Tuesday night to go over some options.
"In the next phase of the study, all of the four counties are going to be putting in potentially some pretty good money to fine tune this project and get all of the details done," said Mower County Coordinator, Craig Oscarson.
He said now is the time to back out if board members do not want to move forward with the project.
"If they've got reservations today, it'd be better not only for us, but it'd be better for the other three counties not to go down and finish this not as a four county study, but say as a three county study," Oscarson said.
After Tuesday's discussion Mower County leaders are planning a vote at next Tuesday's meeting.
Dodge and Steele counties have both decided to move forward and Waseca County plans to have a decision soon.
