ROCHESTER, Minn. - A Rochester home was destroyed early Sunday morning in a fire
Fire officials received the call at 4:30 a.m.
Byron, Pine Island and Rochester fire departments were all at the scene and upon arrival officials say they saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home.
After making sure the home was evacuated they discovered more flames in the basement and because of the location of the home, putting the fire out was a tricky task for firefighters.
Captain Greg Neumann said that even though there were a couple of extra steps to take because of the rural location of the home, there was no down time and the crews did everything they could put out the flames.
"There’s no hydrants. Rochester has two tankers and then we called additional tankers to shuttle water back, go to a hydrant get water, bring it back, dump it in a dump truck and then crews dump it from the dump tank,” Neumann said.
One neighbor stopped by the home to check on the family and told us that they were relatively new to the area.
While the family was at home at the time of the fire, everyone was evacuated and officials confirm that there were no injuries.
The investigation will continue as to the cause of the fire and more information is expected to be released later in the week.
