AUSTIN, MN -- A school district in our area has a new way of testing their future first-graders.
This coming fall, the school will use a Scantron assessment to see what the kindergarten students' strengths are.
The tests are done over a website that the school conducts on iPads.
It is designed to give the first grade teachers a better idea of what kinds of skills their future students have.
"It gives a series of questions and they have a wide range until they drill into the ability level of that student so it may be a number sense or a geometry patterning number identification," said Jessica Cabeen, Principal at Woodson Kindergarten Center in Austin.
She said no test is the same.
"It keeps that information and if you score well in a certain area, they're going to keep ramping up the questions and the rigor until they match your level and then they might go to a different strand so it really helps to bring the full child's perspective in," Cabeen said.
That information stays with the students' account and will continue with them through their educational career.
