KIMT NEWS 3 -- As the weather cools, you can bet you will see more people outside including many in Minnesota who will be taking to the woods with their bows and arrows this weekend.
Starting Saturday morning, small game and deer archery season begins.
There is still mandatory testing for chronic wasting disease in southeastern Minnesota.
Those who take a deer in permit area 602, which includes Rochester, must register their deer in person and cannot remove it from the area until negative test results come back.
The DNR is preaching safety as well.
"One thing we like to stress is stand safety, most archery hunters hunt out of a stand so there are a lot of accidents every year from people falling out, so make sure you're taking the precautions of being able to get in and out of your stand safely," said Conservation Officer Luke Belgard with the Minnesota DNR.
The season runs through December 31. Firearm season starts on November 9.
The holiday spirit is being felt in southern Minnesota.
