School Board Tension In Central Springs by Cole Mathisen
KIMT News 3

Manly, IA-  The first meeting of an area school board brings out a packed crowd.

In Manly the North Central School Board swore in its newest members on Monday Night.  In last week's election Jeff Leerar and Julie Fingalsen both won as write in candidates.  They edged out incumbents Margo Neel and Bud Ciavarelli with more than 300 votes.  Fingalsen tells us the voters wanted change on the board.

“I think a lot of people are all about change and they think that I’m that person to give them that change so all I can do is my best I guess," she said.

Fingalsen tells us many people in the school district are concerned about the superintendent search.

There were two agenda’s for the Monday’s meeting, one for the new board and one for the original board.  Some were concerned the old board members would try and appoint a new superintendent before the new members were sworn in, but original members say that wouldn't be fair.

"They thought we were going to choose a superintendent tonight but we had already decided that we were going into a deal with Nora Springs to decide where the two schools want to go, and what our focus is for the future,” said School Board Member Jerry Hebel.

North Central and Nora Springs-Rock Falls school districts are in a whole grade sharing agreement called Central Springs.  The two districts have a meeting next month, they will continue to discuss their superintendent search.
