North Iowa Woman Claims Pot Plants Were Medicinal by Cole Mathisen
KIMT News 3
Marble Rock, IA- She's no stranger to causes and controversy.  Now a Floyd County woman could be accused of running what authorities call a "marijuana growing operation."

Kim Robinson of Marble Rock has sparred with the city over complaints about her dogs.  She also raised concerns by going to local businesses to raise money for a Marble Rock family that lost its home in a deadly fire.  Now investigators claim they found pot plants and evidence of a drug "manufacturing operation" in Robinson’s home.

Inside they say they discovered 21 marijuana plants in various stages of growth and other drug paraphernalia.

Robinson says the most of the plants weren't hers, and the ones she had were for medicinal purposes.

She wanted us to see the inside of her house.  The very place Floyd County authorities are describing as an "elaborate marijuana manufacturing and growing operation."

"I was growing the plants for one simple reason, because I found out that I was sick, I've been going through a lot of pain, and I know that if I have to go through chemo I'll be getting sick all the time," she said.

Robinson was diagnosed with throat cancer about four months ago.  She says she has smoked the illegal drug all her life and didn't want to get it from anyone in the area.

She even showed us where she had her plants.  Deputies seized them, her growing lights and other drug paraphernalia.

"I've checked into it, I’ve talked to doctors, you cannot get it in Iowa, I didn't want to get it from drug dealers, I didn't want to get something that was laced with something weird, that I was going to get sick off of, I decided to grow a couple of plants, three plants,” Robinson said.

As for the other 19 plants authorities say they found, Robinson said, "They were dropped off here, they were dumped off here."

Robinson says she knows what she did was wrong, even so, she maintains that she only grew the plants for herself.

"But I wasn't growing it to sell it, there was no selling going on they can talk to my neighbors, there's never any traffic over here or anything going on over here," she said.

The Floyd County Sheriff's Office is still investigating this case to determine just how many people are involved.  No one, including Robinson has been charged

The Floyd County Attorney's Office is expected to file charges later this week.
