Clear Lake, IA- He's been called the reincarnation of buddy holly. Now this very special singer is helping the iconic Surf Ballroom celebrate a milestone.
The Clear Lake site is 60 years old this year. The Surf is probably best known as the final concert for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper.
Each year folks fill the ballroom with the "Fifties In February" event. Now the music is coming alive once again with "John Mueller's Winter Dance Party".
Mueller portrays Holly, along with Ray Anthony as Valens and the Big Bopper's son the Big Bopper Junior. They're all taking the stage as the iconic rockers who once played here.
“We're just thrilled that they picked us to perform hear. This is like really really cool and also we're just so happy to be here when it's warm, because we normally come around these parts when it's 20-below zero!” Mueller said.
The Surf Ballroom 60th Anniversary Gala and fundraiser kicks off at 7:30 tomorrow night. On Sunday at five the celebrating continues. Several former Lawrence Welk cast members will take the stage.
