ALBERT LEA, MN -- Blood and money are usually the type of donations needed by the American Red Cross.
But thanks to a new program, your old cars will do just fine.
The American Red Cross, along with Insurance Auto Auctions, has unveiled "Cars for a Cause."
The program allows them to take those old cars off your hands.
In exchange, they will get money for selling the car, while you get a tax receipt for the sale price of the car.
It's another avenue the Red Cross is opening to drive up donations.
"Just another opportunity for people to give, who maybe can't give on a financial basis or maybe they can't give their blood because of different circumstance that they have or medications or whatever the situation maybe," Freeborn–Mower County American Red Cross Program Coordinator Chris Avery said.
They will also take old snowmobiles, RV's, motorcycles, boats, tractor and jet skis.
And they don't have to work and there is no charge to the donor for pickup.
To get involved you can visit: www.redcross.org/cardonation or call 1-855-9ARC-CAR.
