Charles City, IA- People from the Jordan River Church in Charles City are leading the way for a new community kitchen.
In Floyd County, more than 600 people receive food stamps every month. Community Kitchen organizers say that is not enough to feed a family.
Debra Lincoln, from Jordan River Church, talked with several people about the kitchen Monday. Senator Amanda Ragan offered advice on how to get a kitchen started. Ragan heads up the Mason City Community Kitchen. The Northeast Iowa Food Bank in Waterloo also explained how they can provide low-cost food.
Lincoln says the initial cost of the kitchen will be more than $100,000. She adds that the cost will come down to around $60,000 a year. Lincoln hopes to open the kitchen by November.
