ST. ANSGAR, IA - A Minnesota-based company receives a fine following an investigation into a deadly worker accident. Kenneth Sterling of Austin, Minnesota, died while working at an ethanol plant under construction near Mona, Iowa last February.
Authorities say the Austin man was pinned between a man-lift and a beam in the building. Sterling worked for Fagen, Inc. which is based out of Granite Falls, Minnesota.
IOSHA has handed out three citations to Fagen, Inc. which add up to $15,000. The fines all center around the aerial lift that was in use. The citations state that the lifts controls weren't tested each day, and lift was also used without effective operator training. The company has 15 working days to contest the fine.
