Drake loses Davis KIMT News 3

If Drake's going to make another Cinderella run on the basketball court, it will be with a new head coach.

On-line reports say Keno Davis is set to become the next head coach at Providence.  Davis met with Providence officials Monday, and by Tuesday morning a tentative deal was in place.  FoxSports.com has learned that the deal is worth $1 million a season for seven years.

In his only season as Bulldog head coach, Davis led Drake to 28 wins.  The team also captured the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles.  The school also made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1971.

A press conference to announce a new coach at Providence has been scheduled for later this afternoon.

At Providence, Davis will replace Tim Welsh.  Welsh was fired in March after ten seasons with the Friars.

Providence finished 12th in the Big East this past season.  The team was 15-16 overall.
