Lansing, MN - Some homes in Mower County are dumping into a local river. The county says homes in the north part of Lansing are leaking sewage right into the Cedar River. The houses have what's known as a "straight pipe system." So far, the county's environmental services has sent out letters. The homeowners are being told they have to fix their dirty problem.
"The discharge of sewage is considered an imminent public health under the state regulations and law. And of course the more you have going on, the bigger the problem," Bill Buckley with the Mower County Environmental Services said.
Homeowners have ten months to fix the problem or they could be fined $500 a month.
