Opponents of a Presidential Veto campaign with a nationwide vigil that included
North Iowa Tuesday night.
Dozens of people gathered outside Representative Tom Latham's office in
Clear
Lake to thank him for his support of the children’s health insurance program, or "S-Chip."
They are protesting President Bush's recent veto of an expansion of the plan and want congressman Latham to help override the President.
"We need to be advocates for our children, especially the children that don't have some of the services and things that they really need to grow up, healthy and well," said former
Clear
Lake school teacher Sandy Christ.
The house is scheduled to vote on the president's s-chip veto on Thursday. President Bush is willing to expand the program by $5 billion, but democrats want a $35 billion increase.
