ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) — State regulators have approved an $18.5 million remodeling project at the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission made the decision Tuesday for a 50,000-square-foot renovation that will begin early next year and run through May 2015.
The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/11dMdJT ) the renovation is the fourth phase in an overhaul at the complex that began in 2010. It includes upgrades to the casino floor, concessions and bar areas.
A Prairie Meadows official says the casino in Polk County would pay renovation costs as they arise in an effort to avoid additional debt.
