MASON CITY, Iowa - It's official North Iowa Area Community College's president will be leaving.
Dr. Debra Derr has just accepted a position as president of Mt.HoodCommunity College in Oregon.
Derr said her responsibilities will be very similar to the one's she has a NIACC.
Her contract is up on June 30th and she starts her new position in Oregon on July 1st. Until then the Board has the task of choosing her replacement.
"The Board has not had an opportunity to meet yet and so they will have to come together and determine what direction they want to go in relation to a new president," says current president Debra Derr.
She tells KIMT News 3 that family played a big part in choosing to take the job.
"It is home, so when this opportunity unveiled itself we made this decision to apply for the job and see if we could come back to Oregon and be closer to family," adds Derr.
The holiday spirit is being felt in southern Minnesota.
