MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A northern Iowa man has been given more prison time for leasing the same piece of farmland to several individuals.
As part of a plea deal, 41-year-old Raymond Schaefer, of Rock Falls, pleaded guilty to a third-degree theft charge and was sentenced to two years in state prison.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1d1dkgp ) Schaefer will serve the sentence concurrently with a federal prison sentence of two years for making false statements related to farm loans.
Court records show Schaefer signed leases with two individuals in the fall of 2011 for the same farmland and collected $39,000. He then sold the land to a third party.
