IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa City man is facing several charges after a child and elderly woman hostage during a13-hour standoff with police.
Iowa City police said 52-year-old Troy Lee Perkins was arrested Saturday morning after a SWAT team entered the home.
Police say the standoff began around 7 p.m. Friday when Perkins' girlfriend reported that he had threatened her with a gun and punched her before she escaped.
Perkins had an 8-year-old child and an elderly woman who live at the home with him. Police negotiators talked to him for several hours before losing contact around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officers entered the home and arrested Perkins around 8 a.m. Saturday.
In addition to assault charges related to the standoff, Perkins was arrested on three outstanding warrants.
