NASHUA, Iowa - Just a few days before Nashua-Plainfield's' homecoming game and dance, Alex's friends and family are gathering on the football field, in his memory.
17-year old Alex Potratz, died Tuesday morning after a car crash Monday night.
Tuesday night, a vigil was held just after 7, to remember the young man.
Alex was involved in quite a few school activities, including the role of starting center on the football team.
Alex was one of 9 seniors on this year's NP football team, and was an all-district academic selection last season.
His family says they are taken aback by the support of the football team and the entire Nashua-Plainfield community.
"Overwhelming support of the football team coming to see him and of course he had already passed, was just so supportive to our family. And the coaches, it was just an overwhelming support of the love that this community will give to someone," says Mark Adkins, Alex's Aunt.
The school also postponed a scheduled volleyball game and cross country meet because of the death and tonight's vigil.
