MASON CITY, IA - A North Iowa man is in custody tonight after a call for help turns into a two hour standoff. The Ventura man was threating to kill himself after trouble with his soon to be ex-wife.

A state patrol negotiator finally convinced 50-year old Dennis DeJager to give himself up. Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson says the guy had a gun, but didn’t fire any shots.

"This ended as well as it could. We just had patience and he came out willingly and we hope that he'll receive the help he needs."

Chief Peterson says DeJager was taken to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. His family isn't commenting about what happened. His soon to be ex is okay.
