MASON CITY, IA - More than one hundred people laced up their running shoes Saturday morning for a good cause.
The second annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 5K Run/Walk took place in East Park.
JDRF, along with Mercy Medical Center North Iowa's Diabetes Center, are raising money for juvenile diabetes research. Organizers say it's something the entire family can do to help fight diabetes together.
"There's many people that are affected by diabetes and it seems like everybody knows someone with diabetes so it goes for research as well as finding other ways of living with diabetes to help people live with it," said Erica Edgar, chair of North Iowa JDRF.
Kids also got to take part in the action. There was a special half mile run for the little ones.
Edgar hopes the event continues to grow each year.
