RAGBRAI rider critically injured

CHARLES CITY,IA --A RAGBRAI rider was listed in critical condition Thursday night at Mercy Medical Center — North Iowa after an accident in Floyd County.

Stephen Briggs, 68 of Waverly, was riding in a group when he collided with another bike and was thrown from his bicycle.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office reports the accident happened at 7:35 a.m. as riders started making their way from Charles City to Waterloo.

The collision happened on Shadow Avenue (County Road T-64) and 260th Street.

Briggs was treated for a head injury at the scene and then flown to Mason City.

Sheriff's authorities also report that Briggs was wearing a helmet, he was a registered RAGBRAI rider and had rode in RAGBRAI at least 10 years.
