MASON CITY, IA--- A Mason City Man is recovering this morning after his pickup slams into the back of a parked van.

It happened on Tuesday around 12:45 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Carolina Avenue.

It appears a Chevrolet pickup driven by a man identified by police as Amador Ramos was headed Northbound when it hit a Ford Econoline van.

The force of the collision sent tools flying from the rear of the van and pushed it forward as much as 40-to-50 feet.

The van is owned by Pat Wickering and was parked in front of his home.

Neighbor Tom Fitzgerald and his wife were sound asleep and the crash woke them up. We "heard a huge crash and bang," said Fitzgerald, "we thought a bird hit the window and then we looked out and saw a pickup hit the van."

Fitzgerald checked on the driver of the pickup and called 911.

Mason City fire and rescue squad members had to pry Ramos from the cab of his truck.

Police officers said he was conscious and talking. They believe alcohol is a factor in the crash.

Ramos was taken to a Mason City hospital, where he was being checked out in the emergency room early Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, Wickering's van is totaled and he has several rolls of carpeting and padding in the back for a job on Tuesday.  He is not sure about the condition of the floor covering.

Fitzgerald is feeling fortunate.  He said he usually has his pickup sitting behind his neighbor's van, but on Monday night he parked in his backyard.
