RUDD, IA - A fire that broke out early this morning destroys a couple's home.
Rudd Fire Chief Wayne LaCoste said they received a call at 4:20 am Wednesday for a two story home at 1544 Glass Avenue. When they arrived on scene, they found the 5,000 square foot residence fully engulfed. He said the fire appeared to have started from the west end of the home.
Mutual aid was called in to help combat the flames. Nora Springs, Rockford, Floyd and Charles City Fire Departments arrived on scene. LaCoste said it took several hours to put out the fire and the remaining hot spots near the home.
The home was owned by Jeff and Carla White. They did escape unharmed. LaCoste said the home looks to be a total lost with damages around $500,000. He added that the Whites had just finished remodeling a new addition to the house.
The fire marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
