An energy company is helping its customers get some shade and lower their bills at the same time.

Alliant Energy is partnering with the Iowa DNR and the Worth County Conservation Board to supply shade trees. The trees will supply shade in people's yards, lowering their air conditioning costs.

The trees won’t be available until October, but interested people need to apply now.

"If people want to order trees they need to start right now because it's first come first served and there is a limited number of trees that are available," said Dean Mueller.

The trees cost about $25 which is about half the regular price. You have to be an Alliant Energy customer to participate in the program.

To get an application stop by the Worth County Conservation Board or go to the Alliant Energy website.
