MASON CITY- There's a new clinic opening up in north Iowa today. The best part about people making a visit, it won't cost you a thing.
Mason City's first free Health Clinic is sharing space with the Lindstrom Family Practice in Mason City. Volunteers are saying their first day of business is a success.
The clinic is designed to help those who can't afford health care on their own. In order to qualify, people must live in Cerro Gordo County and be under insured or have no insurance at all.
Volunteers will run the office every Saturday except for holiday's.
They will only take patients by appointment.
Area health care leaders say this program is needed in the community to take care of minor problems before they become more serious.
Clinic Manager, Allison Beattie says, "if we can work on wellness here in the clinic by patient education..do some basic screening- I think that's helping the community as well in many ways financially and being the right thing to do."
The clinic is open from nine to noon. The only time to schedule an appointment for the following week is to call or stop by during those open hours.
The clinic is closed next Saturday due to the Holiday, so the next saturday clinic will be on December 5th.
The Clinic's phone number is (888) 669-4662 and their website is www.cgfreeclinic.com.
