NORTHWOOD, IA-- A Wisconsin driver is hurt when a nearby driver swerves to avoid a deer in Worth County.

The Iowa State Patrol reported James Watters, 22, of Fort Dodge was driving Northbound on Interstate 35 at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Watters' Honda Accord was in the right-hand lane near mile marker 211, which is just South of the Northwood exit.

A Pontiac Sunfire driven by Kayla Thompson, 18, of Cornell, Wisconsin was also headed Northbound and was in the left-hand lane.

The Patrol reports Watters swerved to the right and then to the left to avoid hitting a deer and the front ends of both vehicles collided.

They ended up in the median of I-35.

Thompson was taken to a Mason City Hospital.

There is no word on her condition.
