CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Lake City Southern Cal quarterback Greg
Meyer scored on a 2-point conversion to beat Mason City Newman
Catholic in overtime and win the Class A football championship.
Friday's victory was the Mustang's second straight state title.
Newman Catholic (12-2) tied the game at 20 on Ben Buffington's
1-yard run and Dillon Stradt's extra point kick, then took the lead
on the first overtime possession when Buffington scored from
2-yards out.
Meyer's 6-yard TD pass to Austin Blair drew the Mustangs (13-1)
to 27-26 and coach Bryan Case decided to go for the victory instead
of kicking for a tie. Meyer circled left end and crossed the goal
line for the win before being pushed back.
