MASON CITY, IA--
“You're going to have a nice 27 room hotel with a restaurant and a lounge in the basement and a conference room and a ballroom,” said Jean Marinos, the president of Wright on the Park. “So it's going to be a great addition to Mason City's downtown.”“So far it's going great,” said Gary Schmit, of the Henkel Construction Company, describing the Park Inn Hotel renovation project. “There have been a few surprises that we have learned about along the way.”
“You'll hear lots of jackhammers,” he added, as the sound of tools punctuated the air. “So there'll be lots of floors and walls that will be coming out.”
Marinos said they’re pleased with the project’s progress. “It’s moving right along as you can see,” she said. “We're experiencing a lot of surprises in the demolition….but nothing that we can't handle.”
“[We] ran into some structural deficiencies along the way,” said Schmit. “I mean the building is one hundred years old.”
“I think people will be pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the inside of this building, with the art glass and some of the architecture,” said Marinos.
“It's expected to be a 16 month project so it should be done the early summer of 2011,” said Schmit.
“We've already had some inquiries about places, times to stay at the hotel,” said Marinos.
