No West Nile Cases in Minnesota Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota health officials say West Nile virus has stayed away so far this summer.

In tests of mosquitoes, people and animals, the Minnesota Department of Health hasn't had one sample test positive for the disease.

Officials say the peak season for West Nile may have been pushed back by cooler weather. In the past seven years, West Nile reports have arrived at the health department usually sometime in June.

While the number of mosquitoes being trapped by control centers has also gone down, officials say that won't last as weather gets warmer.

Only about one in 150 people with West Nile virus end up suffering from its most serious form. Some others could get a fever or headache, but the vast majority will have no symptoms.
