Officials urge Iowans to check vaccinations for measles Associated Press

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - State health officials are urging Iowans to make sure their vaccinations are current.

There's an outbreak of measles in the country, with some cases in neighboring Wisconsin and Illinois. No cases have been reported in Iowa, but the Iowa Department of Public Health says the risk is high. Iowa last saw measles in 2004, with three cases.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are 64 cases of measles so far this year. That's the highest number for the period since 2001.

Measles, a highly contagious disease, causes high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes and a red rash that moves from the face to the body.
