fought for his country. and today... a north iowa veteran is awarded a high distinction from france... for his service during the battle of the bulge á one of the bloodiest battles in world war 2. newsroom kimt news 3's alex jirgens was at the ceremony today in manly... and joins us in the mason city newsroom... alex?xxx katie á it was a packed house at the edward tosel post number 1á10 today in manly. 93 year old marcus "stub" bartusek (bará tooásick) was awarded france's legion of honor á the highest distinction á for his service during the two month battle in the winter of 19á44 and 45. and it's something he says he would do all over again.xxx "it's a once in a lifetime. it's really honorable." bartusek (bará tooásick) was 18 when he was drafted into the war á serving as a corporal with the 106th infantry division's 424th regiment. he says having the support from the community and his family á is priceless. "it was wonderful, wonderful to have the kids with me and the grandkids with me. there was a lot of grandkids that couldn't make it, but the older ones that were here... i'm sure they enjoyed it, and really enjoyed having it. he is one of the few survivors of the battle á still living. "i'm doing well, all i've been through... with everybody else. i hope i can make it a few more years yet." guillaume lacroix (geeá umm luhácrah) is the consul general of france in chicago... and presented the honor to bartusek. he says the war was the defining moment of his native country during the 20th century... and wants to make sure this era in history... as well as those who were a part of it... are not forgotten.
