the night off. it's a parent's worst nightmare... an attempted child abduction is reported at the freeborn county fair. sheriff's deputies say they were patrolling the fairgrounds when they were stopped by a 12?year? old girl. deputies say the girl reported walking through the parking lot near the 4?h building on the south side of the fairgrounds just after 9 p? m. that's when a man grabbed her waist from behind and said "keep walking and nobody will get hurt." the girl says it only took a few seconds before a woman nearby told the man to leave the girl alone... and that's when he ran away. kimt news three's annalise johnson spoke with parents at the fairgrounds today... and joins us now live in studio. annalise... definitely a calyn ? it definitely is. i went to the freeborn county fair to talk with some parents about how they felt when they heard about the incident ? and how they try to keep their children safe in busy places like county fairs.xxx it was kind of just that instant panic like oh my goodness this is happening here amy schuhmacher is at the fair all week with her kids camping out for 4?h events. when it happens ? i think even the teenagers are like oh my goodness ? this is happening here ? this really could happen to me or a friend or someone i know another mom ? jena thompson ? tells me the incident is a harrowing reminder that a parent's worst nightmare can happen anywhere. really hitting home because you know and there's always been the awareness throughout the years of having my children but its like ? to have it actually happen here in my hometown both schuhmacher and thompson tell me they did talk to their kids about last night's attempted abduction... yes i did right away yeah we have talked about it ? we talked about it this morning and it's a conversation they say they've had before ? to help keep their kids safe. always stay in groups ? and never be alone just really that the reality of it that it really does happen and to always be aware of your surroundings and to really not venture off alone ? to always have those same awareness at any age ? it doesn't matter what age you are we have check? ins about every 30 minutes and while the freeborn county fair is ending tonight ? these moms think their kids always need to be ready. some tips from the national center for missing and exploited children to help prevent child abductions include... yelling "this person is trying to take me" if someone grabs you. and making every effort to escape and get other people's attention by running ? pulling away ? yelling ? and kicking. the center also advises parents to find opportunities for "teachable moments" with their kids ? creating "what if" scenarios so that kids know what to do in real life situations. calyn... /// the freeborn county sheriff's office says the suspect is described as an adult male... with an abnormally deep voice... and who was wearing dark shoes with white laces. the identity of the woman who yelled at him to stop is unknown.///
