new this morning ? as you wake and make breakfast for your family.. we're looking into how much things like that breakfast is costing an average family of four in our area... as you might imagine ? it varies by state ? county ? even metro. kimt news three's deedee stiepan joins us live to break down the numbers. the economic policy institute has what's called a family budget calculator ? which estimates community? specific costs for families. so we plugged in four communities ? rochester metro ? which includes olmsted and dodge counties ? cerro gordo county ? floyd county and freeborn county. here's a break down of different costs like housing ? healthcare ? and transportatio n. according to the most recent data collected by the e?p?i.. here is what a family of four would need to make every year to get by. as you can see ? rochester residents pay the highest cost of living and i wanted to find out how that's affecting local families.xxx "things are getting very expensive in rochester, it's not like before." mary ijong has lived in rochester for two decades ? and she's seen the costs of everything from housing to child care to food climb. the biggest challenge her family of seven faces is finding housing that meets their needs and is in their budget. in order to get by ? mary is having to work day and night ? which she says is taking a toll on her family. "if i'm working day and night what is parenting time here for my family? if i'm not doing that where are the kids going to live? so that's thanks deedee. something interesting to note ? olmsted county has the 8th highest cost of living in the state (but the median family income is the 6th highest among minnesota's 87 counties.///
