On the website for this year's Toughest Mudder Competition it says “we are trying to find the toughest human being on the planet.”
And for Garner's Ryan Christie, that type of advertisement is right up his ally. He was looking for something to do and this type of race fits right in.

“Without the vulgarity of the language, they tell me I am out of my mind,” says Christie.

“It's a 24 hour race this year. Next year it’s going to be 48 hours, running through nothing but mud, icy cold water and diving off of high elevations,” says Christie.

The winner of the competition is the person that completes the most laps through the course during the 24 hour time span. This year, that person will be crowned as the world champion.

“After having done a couple obstacles, the adrenaline starts to kick in. You start enjoying the people around you and you just start enjoying the experience,” says Christie.

On the registration website it states only 10 percent of those that begin the event are expected to finish. And only those in extreme physical and mental shape should even think about signing up.

“It’s not about how much weight you are lifting or how long you are doing it. It’s more about the repetition and how many times you can actually go through an entire circuit of their workouts,” says Ryan.

As intimidating as this race might sound, it’s only the beginning for Ryan Christie, as his goals and interests only continue to grow.

“There’s also the Spartan Death Race which is over in Vermont and is over 40 hours of climbing through barbed wire again in the rocky and muddy terrain, “ says Christie.

This year's competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday in New Jersey.
Ryan began his 23 hour car ride Wednesday afternoon.
He says this event is put on by the Wounded Warrior Project and they've raised over 2 million dollars so far and are hoping to increase that this weekend.
