"Getting to the state meet is just a huge deal.  I mean it's a great opportunity," says Mason City Junior Coty Thompson.

And it's something that Thompson has done twice in his Mohawk career, and is hoping to only increase that number, with a state title this season.

"I mean the mile I have been training for that, and the 4x8, is more of a team based event, and we have some good guys coming back," says Thompson.

Not only is Coty excelling at track, he had a great season on the basketball floor, and his abilities in all of his sports, are giving him an important leadership role.

"I think Coty is more leading by example, not necessarily a rah-rah cheerleader type.  He's one that just goes out and does the workouts, and the great thing is that we have some other fantastic young men that follow that suit," says Jed Vorba, Mason City Boys Track Coach.

"Track has made me so much better, even when I went out for football my sophomore year, I felt like I was faster and I can jump higher. In basketball I'm more in shape, and it defenitly helps a lot," says Thompson.

Coty's goal are as high as they come, not just for his time remaining at Mason City, but for his future as well.  With those goals, comes hard work, that Coty is ready to take on.

"Competition is just going to be incredible. I'll have to train a lot more, and definetly going to have to step up my game for the next couple of years here," says Thompson.

Coty will be featured in the Fastest 30, this Sunday at 9 p.m. on The Sports Pulse.
