ST. PAUL, Minn. – Health officials are warning about a possible measles exposure in southeastern Minnesota.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) says someone from out-of-state with a confirmed case of the disease may have exposed individuals at two separate locations on different days and times. The potential exposure could have happened on April 13 at the McDonald’s at 172 Main Street in Winona between 12:30 and 4 pm and on April 16 at the Freeborn County Co-op gas station at 1840 Margaretha Avenue in Albert Lea between 9:30 and 11:45 am.

Anyone at those locations during those times is being asked to check their vaccination status and watch of symptoms.

“If someone has been exposed and has signs consistent with measles, it is important that they stay isolated from others to prevent spreading the disease and call their health care provider,” said Kris Ehresmann, director of infectious disease for MDH.

State and local health officials are contacting the owners of the two businesses to provide recommendations for employee health.

“If you are diagnosed with measles, it is important to follow the instructions of your health care provider and public health officials to protect your family and community,” Ehresmann said.

MDH officials say anyone exposed to the measles in this incident could develop symptoms between April 23 and May 7. Those symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red, watery eyes and a rash.

This follows a warning Monday in central Iowa about a possible measles exposure. Officials say in both cases, the person with measles was from Missouri but it is not known if it was the same person. For details on the Iowa exposure, click here.
