KIMT NEWS 3- After a winter season that feels like it will never end, local businesses are feeling the impacts.
“When there’s a lot of snow it is hard for a little business,” said Assen Ali, the Assistant Manager of North Side Liquor.
While Ali says his business is slower during snow events, he says the least he can do is to give those willing to venture out in to the winter like conditions a clear path.
“They see the driveway and sidewalks are cleared so they can park their vehicles and come inside the store,” Ali said. “It is just easier for them.”
And it isn’t just North Side Liquor feeling the impacts of the weather. The man behind the snow plow at Ali’s businesses, Dalayne Germundson, has around five commercial parking lots and 10 resident lots that he has to keep clear; a job he does when his car sale business is slow because of the snow.
“You know with this weather you aren’t selling any cars,” he said.
Even though Germundson does make a few extra bucks plowing drives, he too is getting a little tired of the winter-like storms.
“I’m getting pretty burned out,” he said. “I am ready for spring.”
And his feelings are shared among many throughout our area.
“I’m hoping not to have any more of this kind of weather,” said Ali. It’s mason City though, and you can never tell when the weather is going to change.”
