MASON CITY, IA - Yoga instructor Clemencia Gujral says the different breathing exercises and postures help people connect their body, mind and spirit.

"The gentle level is very beautiful, therapeutic and healing."

Today, a group of thirty five is out experiencing nature and yoga at Edgewater Park in Albert Lea.

"Looking at the heavens and feeling the earth under our feet so that's a tremendous experience because it really brings that element into reality."

The reality that day to day life is stressful and through certain activities we can cut down on that stress and add years to our life.

It’s a goal Pat Garbisch from the National Vitality Center is working to accomplish.

"We were looking for a way to combine faith and spirituality with our other initiatives for the National Vitality Center. We thought we'd combine the beauty of our parks and lakes with the yoga"

Unfortunately, across the way, another group was also observing the parks beauty. Gujra says, a ski competition was making a bit of noise.

"We are supposed to block everything out and go inwardly, which is the beauty of yoga going into the inner experience therefore that should have no problem at all."

Despite the varying experience levels of the yogis and yoginis here, Pat Garbisch says they were able to find peace among the noise.

"It's more of a mindfulness and spiritual-ness also with the exercise component.”

It’s also the kind of activity this group hopes to repeat again in the future.

"When we open the National Center this fall we’re hoping to have a class there."
