Forest City, IA- The Chief Sheriff's Deputy in Winnebago County has officially resigned from the department.

Winnebago County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Oulman tells KIMT News 3 Dave Peterson's resignation is now official.

The former chief deputy ran for sheriff and lost to new Sheriff Doug Jenson.

Sheriff Jenson and Oulman signed a resignation agreement this week.

Peterson will get $32,000 in severance pay, he will also be covered by the county's insurance until next September.

Oulman says he's glad the issue is resolved so the county can move forward.
