GARNER, IA--A local church is hoping to help out some area non-profits.

The Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner will be giving away 40,000 pounds of chicken to those in need. The chicken was an anonymous donation.

They're looking for organizations like food pantries, churches, soup kitchens and other non-profits serving people in need to donate the food to. “We're hoping that this will help out between Thanksgiving and Christmas,” said Sandy Suntken, the church administrator at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church. “Christmas can be a burden to the people that are unemployed in this hard time of economics and we're really wanting to help out as much as we can.”

Suntken said they'll be distributing the food on November 28th. She said interested organizations should contact her at this number: 641-425-8300.
