CHARLES CITY, IA - Charles City's mayor is suggesting environmental experts take a look at the entire Cedar River watershed. It stretches from Southern Minnesota to Cedar Rapids.
Last year the river rose to record levels. Mayor James Erb says the makeup of the land surrounding the river has changed. He believes its part of the reason his community received just a few hours of warning before the flood.
"Overtime, we've increased the amount of water getting into the river faster. To the point where, reaction times are really very different," said Erb.
Erb explained, this is just a suggestion, not a formal plan. But he tells us, at least one other city is supporting his idea.
